Known for its arts and festivities, Baa Thulhaadhoo is certainly a unique place. It’s more famous for the lacquer work (called liyelaa jehun), but also is known for its fantastic Eid celebrations, such as Bodu Mas (meaning “big fish”), Body Beru (big drum), and Bandiyaa Jehun (which literally translates to “gunshot”, but is actually a dance carried out with vessels).
The History
Thulhaadhoo has a lot of history and if you want to find out Maldivian history, this would be a great place to start as it’s the only island which still carries out the noble craft of the Maldives.
